Ask The California Employment Tax And Payroll Tax Attorney – New IRS Online Service To Allow You To Track Your Refunds For The Past Two Years

By Robert S. Schriebman

2022

This short article discusses new IRS Press Release 2022-109. The IRS has updated the “Where’s My Refund?” this is an online tool to allow you to check your refund for 2021 and to prior years, i.e., 2020 and 2019. You will need your Social Security number or ITIN. Using this online tool, will allow you to start checking the status of your refund within twenty-four (24) hours of e-filing your 2021 tax return.

If you e-filed your 2019 or 2020 return, the status of your refund will take about 4 days. As for paper-filed return it takes a lot longer – up to four weeks.

According to the Press Release the new tool allows you to track your refund through “Return Received,” “Return Approved,” and “Return Sent” stages.

The IRS does not want them to call them. They want you to go online to c heck the status of your refund. The only time the IRS wants you to call is when it has been more than 21 days since your return was filed.

All of this news of IRS efficiency is good and well. However, I have it on good authority that when you do call, the message tells to call back in 16 weeks. I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember back that far!
